From the founding of Children's Hospital in 1886, to the creation of the first mechanical heart at Harper Hospital 50 years ago, to our compassion for the underserved, our legacy of caring is unmatched.

Our medical experts are nationally recognized and each year, hundreds of DMC doctors are included in the list of America's Best Doctorsâ„¢. The DMC is composed of multiple facilities throughout the Detroit Metro Area.  Our residents primarily rotate at the following locations.

DMC Children's Hospital of Michigan has more than 40 clinical specialties and is an international leader in pediatric and adolescent medicine. Surgical services include general, neurosurgery, orthopaedics, and cardiovascular. Imaging technology designed especially for children provides advanced diagnostic services such as Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and MRI. The Children's Hospital of Michigan's Emergency Department is a verified Level 1 Trauma Center dedicated exclusively to children. Experts in pediatric critical care, rehabilitation, neonatal and perinatal medicine provide care for thousands of children every year.

DMC Detroit Receiving Hospital, Michigan's first Level I Trauma Center has played a pioneer role in the evolution of emergency medicine. Receiving hosts one of the busiest and most well-equipped emergency departments anywhere. The oldest and largest verified burn center in the state is at Receiving, and is one of only 43 in the country. Receiving also boasts the state's leading 24/7 hyperbaric oxygen program, Metro Detroit's first certified primary stroke center, and the nationally recognized Rosa Parks Geriatric Center. Detroit Receiving offers expertise in emergency medicine, complex trauma, critical care, orthopaedics, neurosciences, nephrology, pulmonology, diabetes, geriatrics and urology. Detroit Receiving is also home to a Center of Excellence for disaster preparedness that has been the model for regional, state, national and federal agencies.

DMC Harper University Hospital has distinguished itself in surgery and medicine and is known for its clinical expertise, innovative research and advanced education. A specialty referral hospital, Harper has established Centers of Excellence in neurosciences, bariatric surgery, vascular services, multidisciplinary cardiovascular services, hypertension, stroke prevention and heart failure. Harper is home to the revolutionary Cardio Team One, the new standard of excellence in heart care.

DMC Hutzel Women's Hospital is nationally recognized for cutting-edge research in high-risk obstetrics, infertility, reproductive genetics, neonatology, maternal fetal medicine, midwifery, gynecology, urogynecology, menopause, permanent birth control and alternatives to hysterectomy. With a rich history of over 143 years as Michigan's first and only hospital for women, the patients benefit from Hutzel's commitment to research and education. Home to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Perinatology Research Branch (PRB), Hutzel is recognized as a leader in women's health by physicians and researchers across the country.

DMC Cardiovascular Institute, launched in 2009, the Cardiovascular Institute (CVI) is a world-class heart and vascular treatment center dedicated to clinical care and research in all areas related to the health of the heart and the circulatory system. Headquartered at the DMC's award-winning DMC Harper University Hospital now ranked among the "Best Hospitals" in America for Heart Care and Heart Surgery by U.S.News & World Report CVI provides the most comprehensive cardiovascular services and treatments now available in Michigan.
